  Known Issues
  • Socks proxies with port number greater than 32767 are not verified. This is a VB technological limitation.

  • Some PlanetLab proxies are not identified during verification and show as anonymous. It depends on the HTTP Test page used and the proxy itself.
Solution: Suspected proxies should be verified again. Usually they respond differently on the second request.

  • Existing LAN proxy (home network):   Simple Internet sharing programs, like WinProxy or AnalogProxy, change browser's proxy settings on client computers and conflict with Hiproxy. The gateway (server) computer works fine with Hiproxy.
Solution: We recommend using Microsoft ICS for Internet sharing, it is included in all versions of Windows. There are installation instructions from Practicallynetworked.  Hardware Internet sharing works even better, there is a good choice of routers you can use to build your home network.

  • Existing LAN proxy beyond your control:   This is typically a proxy computer your company or institution uses for Internet access. If your browser is set to such proxy, Hiproxy could be used only for proxy verification. Check IE > Tools > Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings for any predefined settings. Or see file SavedIEproxySettings.htm in Hiproxy's directory.

  • Microsoft Proxy 2.0:   Hiproxy will work fine on the server. Client computers cannot verify proxies unless ping verification is disabled. MS Proxy does not allow outbound ping requests from its clients by design. Disable ping in Hiproxy Settings.

  • Outlook Express:   Outlook Express and Internet Explorer are highly integrated. IE's proxy settings are used also by Outlook. Some proxy servers do not support HTTPMail for Hotmail.

  • America Online:   AOL Internet requests are always directed to their proxy servers, regardless of your browser's proxy settings. Therefore Hiproxy can be used for proxy server verification only, not for browser proxy setup.

  • Sun Java VM:   Some Java applets are not working with a browser Socks proxy present. No such problem when using Microsoft Java VM.
Solution: Remove the Socks proxy from Browser settings and hit Apply.

  • non-English versions of Windows: Hiproxy does not work with Chinese or Japanese Windows or English versions with Chinese IME installed. They will generate fatal errors in Hiproxy like
"Stop: F1-xxxx, Error: 5 Invalid procedure call or argument".

  • VBscript library:   If this required component (part of IE 6.0+) is missing, you may get error
"Stop: Fxx-xxxx, Err:430 Class does not support Automation or does not support expected interface".
Solution: Download the latest Windows Script 5.6. and install it.
